What You Need Before Hiring an OBM
Is there a certain requirement needed before hiring an OBM?
For example, you need a bicycle before going on a bike ride or you need a pair of hiking shoes before going on a hike. But is there a certain requirement businesses need before hiring an OBM? Well, no not really!
Here are the few things I recommend doing before hiring an OBM:
Assess your business. Here are questions to ask: How is your business doing currently? Are you financially ready for the investment? How are sales doing? How are projects going? Are there processes and systems in place for everything in your business from client onboarding to social media engagement? How are the day-to-day tasks going? Is your team needing more structure? Are you present online? If so, how is that going?
Know what you want. This is kind of two-fold. What kind of person do you want to work with? Do you want someone similar to you in personality or the opposite? Are you wanting someone to come in and take over (this just means to lead you and your team to success)? Or do you still want to keep most of the control? With that being said, ask yourself whether you want this addition to the team to be something that frees up more personal time for you. It is important to really know what you want this new venture to bring to you personally and from a business perspective.
Dream big. When you add an OBM to your team, the sky's the limit. Now, no one can work miracles overnight and you can't fix everything in a short time frame. But what happens is your business will gain new expertise and knowledge which will cause it to grow and become more well-rounded. It's okay to envision your business as stronger and better after hiring an OBM.
These aren't specific requirements, but they will help you to decide if your business needs help with the management. OBMs can help you step out of the management role in your business into the CEO role giving you back time that you have lost.
“But I want something more specific.”
I hear you! That’s why I created an amazing checklist to help you get started.
